Our story

Our 6 boutique rooms at The 189 Gizenga House, Zanzibar is located in the vibrant, enchanting and heart of Stone Town on Hurumzi Street, House No. 189, Near Old Fort & right behind Beit-Al-Ajaib (House of Wonders). Zanzibar Stone Town, It is a city of prominent historical and artistic importance in East Africa. Its architecture, mostly dating back to the 19th century, reflects the diverse influences underlying the Swahili culture, with a unique mixture of Moorish, Arab, Persian, Indian and European elements. For this reason, the town has been included in UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites in 2000.

Roof Top Terrace

Our roof top terrace provides the best view of the Old Fort, Forodhani Gardens and Sunsets, Beit Al Ajaib is right infront of you! And the Stone Town skyline. One can sit and work at the roof top terrace since there is FREE Wifi as well with cool Indian Ocean breeze.

Our Rooms

The Six boutique bedrooms pay homage to our host culture with local Swahili architecture of Zanzibar. All rooms are equipped with artisan beds with colourful locally handmade Sasik decorative cushions, air conditioner, ceiling fan, bathroom with shower and amenities from Healing Earth Africa and water heaters and FREE Wifi services for our guests.

Beit-al-Ajaib

A famous landmark in Zanzibar, in English it is translated to the “House of Wonders” – it can be seen directly from the bedroom windows.

Forodhani

The famous gardens are located along the main seawalk of Stone Town, just in front of the most famous buildings of Stone Town, i.e., the House of Wonders and the Old Fort. The Gardens are especially busy after sunset, when tourists and local alike gather in a popular food street market in the main square, to have dinner enjoying Swahili and Zanzibari cuisine delicacies such as grilled seafood, samoosas, cassava and sweet potatoes.

Nakupenda

Means I love you in Swahili. It is a beautiful sandbank beach with white clean sand ,beautiful clear water for swimming and snorkeling.

Shangani

It is a famous shopping street where boutiques, cafe and restaurants are located. 

Ngome Kongwe

The Old Fort (Swahili: Boma la Kale la Zanzibar), also known as the Arab Fort and by other names, is a fortification located in Stone Town, the capital of Zanzibar. It is the oldest building[1] and a major visitor attraction of Stone Town. It is located on the main seafront, adjacent to another landmark building of the city, the House of Wonders (former palace of the Sultan of Zanzibar), and facing the Forodhani Gardens.
